ANGOLA COASTAL EXPLORER 12 days
Day 1 Luanda
Arrival in Luanda and welcomed by one of our tour guide, then transfer to the Hotel. Free time for relaxing. Luanda, home to four million people, is a bustling city with many places to see. Luanda’s Ihla is famous for beach bars and is a must for any visitor to the city. The city is a true African capital with amazing contrasts and excitement. Dinner and overnight in Hotel in Luanda.
Day 2 Luanda-Ponta das Palmeirinhas
After breakfast we will go for a tour of the capital city of Luanda and then we will drive along the coast until we reach “Ponta das Palmeirinhas” a very well known for the beautiful beach on the ocean. On our way we will see the beautiful views of the Mussulo Islands located just south of Luanda and a popular weekend spot for the city’s residents. Overnight in camp.
Day 3 and 4 Luanda-Kissama National Park (Km 180)
Following the Atlantic coast we enter in the Kissama National Park .This park achieved international recognition following a well-publicized elephant relocation project during the year 2000. The project has gone on to introduce zebras, ostrich, wildebeest and giraffe and is also famous for the wildlife as Elephant, African Antilope, Wild Boar and the Turtle’s Eggs on the beach. This unusual marriage between fresh and salt water created a unique ecosystem that abounds with a variety of natural life. Fish eagle and osprey, boabab and mangrove, crocodile and shark all existing in an unusual harmony, unique in its difference and variety. Overnight in Camp at Kissama National Park.
Day 5 Kissama Nat Park-Sumbe
After breakfast we are leaving the Kissama National Park and heading further south, hugging the spectacular coast, we reach the town of Sumbe, the administrative capital of Cuanza Sul Province and known for its excellent beaches. Overnight in Camp at Sumbe.
Day 6 Sumbe-Lobito
After breakfast we leave Sumbe and will travel south to Lobito, province of Benguela. We spend nice time just to explore the City of Lobito. There are many places of historical and cultural interest around Lobito; Palácio do Governo (old colonial style architecture.), Igreja (Church), da Nassa Senhora da Arrabida (17th century). Overnight in Hotel in Lobito.
Day 7 Lobito–Baia Farta Hotel
Leaving the city of Lobito we will have a chance to stop in nearby Benguela, capital of the province by the same name. Benguela is surrounded by some of the country’s most impressive beaches such as Baía-Azul (Blue Bay) and Praia Morena (Brunet Beach). Scuba and deep fishing activities are recommended. We will spend the night at one camp, right on the beach, south of Benguela at Baía Farta. Overnight beach camping.
Day 8 Baia Farta–Bentiaba
Today is a beautiful scenic drive along the coast south to the small town of Bentiaba. Overnight in camp.
Day 9 Bentiaba-Namibe
Another scenic drive will take us to the settlement of Chapeau Armado located in Namibe Province; from there we will follow our road until Namibe. Namibe, the port town of southern Angola, is known as one of the cleanest and best kept towns in the country. Namibe has a strong fishing community supplying much of the country with fresh and dried fish. Namibe harbor is lined with sandstone cliffs falling into the Atlantic. Overnight in Hotel in Namibe.
Day 10 Namibe
In the morning we can have a relaxing time on the beach. The province has very beautiful beaches, with facilities for water sports and other activities. One of the most attractive spots is Bibala Beach, where the water is said to have healing properties. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and Namibia to the south, this province is the land of the Welwitschia mirabilis, an astonishing desert plant that resembles a giant octopus! This plant, which spans 2m to 3m in diameter, is unique to the region and is carnivorous. Overnight in Hotel in Namibe.
Day 11 Namibe-Lubango
After breakfast we will drive to Lubango Along the way we will visit Tunda Valla (1,300 m) a stunning gorge cut into the cliffs overlooking Bibala. This site is not only beautiful but also historically significant. We will follow our scenic drive, through the mountains and the breathtaking Lebba Pass to the Atlantic coast. Serra de Leba with waterfall’s and cantilevered hairpin bends where one ascends from the coastal plain to an altitude of over 5 000 feet in just a few kilometers. This semi-tropical area which abounds with mango trees, lush, green bush and fertile soil provides a home for several Kimbundu communities. Serra de Leba is truly breathtaking! In the afternoon we arrive in Lubango, capital city of the South Angola. Overnight in the Hotel.
Day 12 Lubango
After breakfast we will do a visit of the town. Capital of the south, Lubango is a bustling city rapidly emerging out of the turmoil caused by the country’s tragic past and becoming a modern day example of the new Angola. Lubango is set in a lush tropical valley guarded by the statue of Christ built high above on the cliffs overlooking the city. Rich in colonial architecture mixed with the confusion of Africa, Lubango has many bars and restaurants that offer interesting variety with rich Portuguese heritage. Transfer to the airport for departure.
